John Barnes slams Paul Pogba’s ‘superstar attitude’ at Manchester United and says the French midfielder must replicate his international mindset to help his club win trophies

  • John Barnes says United’s Paul Pogba feels differently about playing for France
  • Barnes claims the French midfielder is a team player he is for the national side
  • However, he says Pogba believes he is a ‘superstar’ at United so plays differently
  • Pogba helped France beat Spain 2-1 in the UEFA Nations League final last week
  • He has only won two trophies at United after joining the club for £89m in 2016

John Barnes has criticised Paul Pogba’s attitude when it comes to playing for his club side Manchester United.

Barnes says the French midfielder is a ‘team player’ when he turns out for his national team but acts like a ‘superstar’ when he features for the Premier League giants.

As a result, he believes Pogba – who played a pivotal role in France’s 2-1 over Spain in the UEFA Nations League final last week – must change his mindset to help the Red Devils win trophies this term.

‘Winning the World Cup in 2018 didn’t help Paul Pogba to win any trophies for Manchester United,’ Barnes told BonusCodeBets.

‘Playing for France and Manchester United are two different things. He plays much better for France than Manchester United, and that has a lot to do with how he feels about playing for France, in terms of being a team player.

‘Whereas, for Manchester United, with his price tag, and being who he is, and the way we treat our superstar players in England.

‘He probably feels he is a superstar, so therefore plays differently, rather than being the team player he is for the national side.

‘Winning a trophy with France won’t necessarily help him at Manchester United, until he decides to have the same attitude playing his club football, as he does for France.’

Pogba arrived at Manchester United in a deal for £89million back in 2016. However, since then he has won just two pieces of silverware with the club.

Whereas internationally he has won both the World Cup and the UEFA Nations League final.

Therefore, Barnes hopes a shift in mindset could see Pogba help United lift some meaningful trophies this term.
