'Facing final frontier' Star Trek's Marina Sirtis reacts to William Shatner soar to space

Marina Sirtis, 66, sent her well wishes to her good friend William Shatner, 90, as he became the oldest person to reach space. The Canadian-born actor flew onboard Blue Origin’s New Shephard rocket, developed by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos.

William, who is best known for playing Captain Kirk in the original Star Trek series, spent several minutes in a suborbital flight alongside three others.

Ahead of his orbit into space, the legendary actor admitted he was “frightened”.

William took to Twitter yesterday and shared a candid message, in view of his 2.5 million followers.

He penned: “I need to get settled in for the night. Tomorrow comes super early for us. Until tomorrow!”

The small-screen star added the Star Trek hand emoji, which means “Live long and prosper friends”.

Taking to the micro-blogging site today, Marina took the opportunity to address her Star Trek co-star’s mission.

In view of her 343,000 followers, she penned: “Wishing you all the best, my friend. You are an absolute inspiration to us all.

“You have lived long and hopefully prospered and now you’re facing the final frontier for real.”

Before his flight, William said: “I’m thrilled and anxious and a little nervous and a little frightened about this whole new adventure.

“But I’ve got to think that once it’s done, once I’ve been into space and seen the universe and seen our Earth and the contrast between that hostility and this warmth, and how important it is to keep the Earth alive so that we don’t wreck it, we human beings don’t wreck it, that contrast in all of that is so dramatic to me.”

The Star Trek legend was visibly emotional following his short flight into space.

After landing safely, he turned to Jeff and said: “What you have done, everybody needs to see, it was unbelievable, unbelievable.”
