Newcastle have reportedly joined the race to sign Paris Saint-Germain striker Mauro Icardi.

The Magpies now have financial muscle as they are under Saudi ownership after a £305million deal was agreed with Mike Ashley and signed off by the Premier League on Thursday. 

It was previously reported that financial analysts have calculated that the Magpies will be able to spend well over £200m strengthening their squad in the next three years, without breaching Financial Fair Play rules.

Italian publication CalcioMercato, have now reported that they are eyeing up a potential move for the 28-year-old striker.

The Magpies though could face fierce competition for the Argentine forward, with both Tottenham and Juventus also said to be interested.

Icardi initially joined PSG on a loan in 2019, after scoring 124 goals in 219 appearances for Serie A giants Inter Milan.

In the French capital, he has faced fierce competition for places with the likes of Neymar, Kylian Mbappe, Lionel Messi and even Edinson Cavani before the latter left for Manchester United.

Despite not getting as much game time, Icardi has scored 36 goals in 72 appearances.

Thanks to the backing of their new owners, Newcastle will be a force to be reckoned with in the transfer market going forward.

Juventus lost their main goal source in Cristiano Ronaldo after his emotional return to Manchester United, and the Bianconeri currently have Alvaro Morata, Kaio Jorge and Moise Kean as their striker options.
