Man Utd duo, Chelsea pair and five other out-of-contract Prem stars Newcastle could sign

Newcastle’s new Saudi-backed owners may have plenty of cash to spend but the Magpies can also shop sensibly by snapping up a number of free-agents next summer. Come the turn of the year, clubs will be able to speak to any player who is in the final six months of their current contract.

While the Magpies are expected to reach straight for the chequebook, signing free-agents could actually be a clever way of navigating the restrictions of Financial Fair Play.

Newcastle are poised to begin stripping down their squad and adequately improving the core of their team.

The likes of Callum Wilson and Allan Saint-Maximin could still play big roles in the project moving forward while some of their team-mates might not be so lucky.

There are plenty of attractive options in the shop window as we approach January, particularly with a number of contract situations in the Premier League still unresolved.

Signing a top-class defender will surely be near the top of Newcastle’s priority list as they look to add some extra steel and experience in order to drive up the table.

Some goals in attack will also be required and there are a number of high-profile names that Newcastle could turn to in the Premier League.

Both Edinson Cavani and Jesse Lingard could leave Manchester United on free transfers next summer and their pedigree could prove to be of huge value on Tyneside.

They are the kind of big-name signings that could kickstart the new era in style.

Arsenal’s Alexandre Lacazette is also up for grabs while Liverpool’s Divock Origi is also approaching the end of his current deal.

Norwich attacking midfielder Todd Cantwell, who was previously targeted by Newcastle, is also yet to sign a new deal although the Canaries do without the right to trigger a one-year extension in his contract.

Tottenham captain Hugo Lloris could depart north London with his deal due to expire at the end of the campaign.

Talks have been held over a short-term extension with a number of French clubs keen on the World Cup winner.

Finally, Burnley’s James Tarkowski is reportedly being lined up on a free transfer and he could be a smart acquisition given he is unlikely to demand huge wages.
