Seahawks’ Russell Wilson could miss at least a month with finger injury

It appears to be Geno Smith time in Seattle after Russell Wilson’s gruesome finger injury.

Wilson, who was hurt during the Seahawks’ 26-17 loss to the Rams on Thursday night, ruptured the tendon in the middle figure of his right throwing hand and likely needs surgery, according to ESPN. It will keep the team’s starting quarterback out at least a month and up to 6-8 weeks.

That opens the door for the former Jet. Smith, who turns 31 on Saturday, came on in place of Wilson on Thursday and went 10-for-17 passing for 131 yards with a touchdown and an interception.

Wilson, 32, was off to a strong start to the season before having his hand hit by Ram star Aaron Donald on a throw in the third quarter, which led to the injury. He had completed 72 percent of this passes for 1,196 yard with 10 touchdowns and just one interception this season.

In an added twist to having Smith at the helm, the Jets own Seattle’s first-round draft pick in 2022 as part of the Jamal Adams trade. The Seahawks are currently 2-3 and visit the Steelers in Week 6.
