Twitch HACK: Error 2000 server status, as alleged breach leaks passwords

The Twitch servers appear to have gone down, leaving hundreds of users unable to login.

The Twitch server status makes grim reading for users, who have received network error messages when trying to access the service.

Independent website Down Detector has received hundreds of reports that Twitch isn’t working.

The outage tracker monitors social mentions around certain topics to detect when services go down across the world.

The Down Detector outage map shows that the Twitch issues are affecting users in the UK, Europe and US.

The outage hits after allegations that Twitch has been the victim of a major hack.

According to a report on VGC, the entire Twitch source code was leaked on the 4Chan website.

The huge 125GB file is said to include everything from user comments to creator payout reports.

More worrying is the allegation that encrypted passwords may also have been leaked.

Indeed, Twitch users are encouraged to enable two-factor authentication if they haven’t already.

With two-factor authentication enabled – or 2FA for short – users are sent a login code on top of their regular password.

In order to enable 2FA, users must first login to Twitch using the traditional email and password system.

Once you’ve logged in, simply click the profile icon and choose the Settings option.

Under settings, users must click Security and Privacy, then scroll down to the Security setting.

Once you’ve selected the Security option, choose to Edit Two-Factor Authentication and follow the instructions from there.

According to the report, the same Twitch leak includes information on mobile, desktop and console clients.

That’s on top of information for other platforms owned by Twitch, as well as other tools.
