Strictly's Kevin Clifton speaks out after audience member asks for money back at his show

Kevin Clifton quit Strictly Come Dancing last year to fulfil other work commitments, such as his stint in Rock Of Ages. In the musical, he takes on the role as rock god Stacee Jaxx, an identity worlds away from his appearance in the BBC show.

In a new interview, the professional dancer said his almost unrecognisable alter ego had confused some audience members, particularly one who queried where he was in the show.

Explaining the mix-up, the 38-year-old spilled: “Because it’s so against anything that you would ever imagine me doing, I don’t look like me on stage.

“And you know, it’s so far removed from the Kevin that people have seen on Strictly.

“At the interval, one lady apparently went and asked for her money back because she said, ‘I thought Kevin was in it from Strictly?’

He stayed on the show for six series and made it to the final five times.

After dancing with Anneka Rice on Strictly in 2019, he announced he was stepping down as a professional.

In a lengthy statement, he said it was time to move on and focus on “other areas” of his life and career.

“I am grateful to the BBC and Strictly Come Dancing for giving me the opportunity to have been a part of something truly special,” he penned.

“I want to thank all of the pros for inspiring me every day as well as all of my celebrity partners.

“The whole team behind the scenes have always made the Strictly family what it is and the loveliest show to work for.”

In 2018, he finally lifted the Glitterball trophy with BBC documentary maker Stacey Dooley.

The dancing duo started dating months after winning the show and are still together now.

Strictly Come Dancing continues Saturday at 7pm on BBC One.
