Instagram DOWN: Instagram servers not working today – WhatsApp and Facebook update

UPDATE: Instagram has provided an update on today’s server outage, confirming that issues with the popular communication service, alongside others like Facebook and WhatsApp, are being looked into.

However, no ETA on when things will be fixed and why Instagram is not working today have been provided. The message from the support team reads: “Instagram and friends are having a little bit of a hard time right now, and you may be having issues using them. Bear with us, we’re on it!”

NEWS ON OTHER OUTAGES: Why Is Facebook Down? Why is WhatsApp Down?

ORIGINAL: The UK and North America have been hit by a massive outage that has seen Instagram stop working alongside other leading messaging services.

The reason has not been shared regarding why Instagram is not working tonight, but it should be noted that it’s not the only one struggling.

Facebook has seen thousands of reports of problems, as has WhatsApp, another leading communications application.

The good news is that all of these major services are owned by the same company, meaning that the issues are localised to these servers, and isn’t part of a global attack on networks.

This means it probably isn’t a problem for the services that host many of the world’s leading websites and services.

Instagram has not shared what is causing tonight’s outage or how long it might last in Europe and North America.

More is expected if the outage continues, as there are now over 20,000 reports of problems logging into accounts and sharing pictures and messages.

From what has been shared so far, Instagram is not working on the popular App on phones or the desktop and mobile website versions.

Those affected by the Instagram outage have been sharing details, with one user posting: “We don’t have to write where it is down because it is down everywhere…

Another adds: “I thought my phone was broken! I restarted my phone, turned airplane mode on and off, turned my data off, then back on. I was like, what is going on with my phone.”

MFL…

INSTAGRAM IS DOWN

Outages on huge social media sites like Instagram can happen from time to time, with issues happening sporadically due to localised issues and worldwide events.

Outage tracker Down Detector, which compiles reports of outages among real-time users, has now reported more than 29,000 instances of the site not working.

The first outages were reported at 4.14pm today, before quickly climbing as users realised there was an issue with the site and app.

According to the site, 51 per cent of these users have reported issues with app, and a further 23 percent have reported an issue with Instagram.com.
