  • The message to his vast social media fanbase showed a luxury sports car in sand

  • The 32-year-old has been a peripheral figure at the Serie A giants so far this term

Alexis Sanchez has deleted a social media post that is unlikely to have impressed bosses at Inter Milan – one that hinted that he is disgruntled with his role at the club.

The ex-Manchester United and Arsenal striker posted an image of a luxury sports car submerged in sand in a message that could be construed as his outlook on his current predicament.

The image of the marooned Ferrari was accompanied by a message in Spanish reading: ‘Realise that you can be worth a lot, but if you are in the wrong place, you are not going to shine.’

Chile star Sanchez has played less than an hour of Serie A football for the reigning Italian champions so far this season.

The 32-year-old joined the club in 2019 following a lean stay at Manchester United, appearing just 32 times during his spell at Old Trafford.

Sanchez was an unused substitute in his side’s 1-0 opening Champions League defeat at home to Real Madrid and made an 18-minute cameo in Tuesday’s goalless draw at Shakhtar Donetsk.

Former boss Antonio Conte used Sanchez 30 times last season, yielding seven goals from the man who almost averaged a goal every other game when he was at Arsenal between 2014 and 2018.

The two-time FA Cup winner has not started a league match since May, although he scored twice against Sampdoria on that occasion.

New manager Simone Inzaghi did not use Sanchez again as Inter won 2-1 at Sassuolo on Saturday.

The unused substitute watched on as Edin Dzeko and Lautaro Martinez’s second-half goals secured the victory.

Inter are second in the table after remaining unbeaten in their first seven matches of the season, winning five times. That has left them four points behind Napoli, whose seven wins make them the only team in the top five leagues to have won all of their games so far this campaign.
