Patrick van Aanholt has mocked Arsenal outcast Matteo Guendouzi on Twitter after the pair clashed in the Europa League.

Guendouzi has already rubbed several team-mates up the wrong way since joining Marseille on a season-long loan in July.

Galatasaray left back Van Aanholt was the latest player wound up by the 22-year-old after the midfielder went down under a challenge from the Dutchman in the box deep into the second half and was given a penalty.

However, the decision was overturned after VAR got involved and the pair had to be separated following the goalless draw by team-mates and backroom staff.

Van Aanholt wasn’t willing to stop the feud there though and took to social media to take a pot shot at the Frenchman, sharing a GIF of Marouane Fellaini pulling Guendouzi’s hair in the Premier League in 2018.

‘Running your mouth after VAR proved you wrong… likkleman needs to relax before I snatch that wig off his head. Well done to my lions for a well earned point on the roads,’ the former Crystal Palace man tweeted.

Fellow Gunner William Saliba also squared up to Galatasaray player Mbaye Diagne late on in a match that was suspended for a short time as flares and other objects were thrown by both sets of supporters, with Dimitri Payet, Galatasaray goalkeeper Fernando Muslera and visiting manager Fatih Terim trying to acts as peacemakers from a distance.

Despite causing some tension at the Stade Velodrome, Guendouzi has largely impressed, starting all nine games for Jorge Sampaoli’s men this season and scoring against Saint-Etienne as Marseille sit third in Ligue 1, although the club now have just one win in five in all competitions after defeat to Lens last weekend and draws against Galatasaray, Angers and Lokomotiv Moscow.

Guendouzi has been frozen out at the Emirates by Mikel Arteta but has been called up to the France national team by Didier Deschamps for the third time ahead of the Nations League semi-final against Belgium and a possible final against Italy or Spain.

The Lorient academy graduate was first drafted into the set-up in September 2019 to replace the injured Paul Pogba, but didn’t feature in the 2020 European Championship qualifiers against Albania and Andorra.

He then had to wait two years for his next call-up, replacing the injured Corentin Tolisso for last month’s 2022 World Cup qualifiers against Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ukraine and Finland. Again though, he didn’t feature.
