Andy Murray excites fans as he makes Laver Cup statement ahead of London edition

His comments come as welcome news to British tennis fans, who will be able to watch the action live in London next year.

Even with Murray’s current lower rank of world No 109, he may still be able to participate next year if he cannot work his way up higher in the rankings.

Three of the six players on each team qualify based on their ATP singles ranking as of the Monday following the French Open, but three more are “captain’s picks”, announced by the start of the US Open, meaning the Brit could be selected by Team Europe captain Bjorn Borg.

Jack Sock, a staple in Team World during the first three editions and the first alternate this year, has previously been able to play the Laver Cup while ranked world No 210 during the 2019 edition in Geneva.

The American, who in 2017 reached a single ranking of world No 8 and won the Paris Masters 1000 before joining forces with Mike Bryan in 2018 to win Wimbledon, the US Open and the ATP Finals, was still selected by Team World captain John McEnroe to be part of the squad two years ago, based on his previous high form.
