Gabby Petito memorial made of stone cross found where woman’s apparent body discovered

A makeshift memorial made of white stones arranged into the shape of a cross has been left at the site in Wyoming where the likely remains of the Long Island native to Gabby Petito have been found, according to reports.

The apparent body of the 22-year-old woman was found in the Spread Creek Dispersed Camping Area in the Bridger-Teton National Forest, where a pair of YouTubers spotted a white 2012 Ford Transit van used by Petito and her boyfriend, Brian Laundrie.

An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday to confirm the identity of the body found at the scene, where the cross was found by several news outlets, including KUTV and Fox 13.

“We have found what appears to be a memorial in the area where law enforcement searched for and eventually found the remains of who law enforcement believes to be #GabbyPetito,” Fox 13 reporter Sydney Glenn said in a tweet that contained an image of the cross of some 18 stones.

KUTV reporter Jeremy Harris also tweeted a photograph of the memorial, which was set on a sandy stretch surrounded by rocks just feet from a creek.

“There are obvious signs that this area was extensively surveyed by crime scene techs,” Harris wrote.

“Investigators had this area locked down until approximately an hour and a half ago, and there are paint marks all around this spot, likely for measurements from a CSI team,” he said in a separate tweet.

Investigators left the scene Monday after finding the remains while the search is still underway for Laundrie, who has been named a “person of interest” after Petito went missing while on their cross-country trip.

The autopsy for the body found is scheduled for Tuesday.

Petito was reported missing by her family on Sept. 11 after Laundrie, 23, returned to his Florida home without her 10 days earlier.

On Monday evening, the feds said they had finished with their search of the Florida home of Laundrie’s parents.

He returned to his parents’ home in the van without Petito on Sept. 1 — then vanished himself last week.
