Sky News Australia’s Chris Smith launched the scathing attack on the French premier during a brutal monologue as he vented his anger at France’s conduct after they were dropped from their €31 billion submarine building contract with Australia. It comes as President Macron has demonstrated his fury with Australia and the United States by recalling ambassadors and attempts to delay a European Union free trade deal with Australia.
Chris Smith slammed: “Talk about an overreaction, talk about trying to save face!
“France’s response to the scrap diesel submarine deal is one of the most over-the-top acts of whingeing I think we have ever seen!”
In a brutal dig at the French identity, Mr Smith stressed how the “seriously dramatic” backlash to being snubbed from Aukus is over the top even by the standards of what he branded as the “extroverted French”.
He went on to vent his anger at how from the minute Australia walked away from the AUD$90 billion “dud” submarine deal the Paris has done nothing but “throw their toys out of the cot”.

The Aussie host added: “They have recalled their ambassadors to Australia and the United States… they have cancelled a gala event to celebrate French/American relations in the United States.
“Now we learn that France is trying to sabotage a potential free trade agreement with the EU and Australia!”
He accused President Macron of going from an original position of protesting against the snub to now launching a “full scale, spiteful and childish campaign” to punish Australia.
The tv host then dealt a devastating blow branding the former contract as providing Australia with “c-grade” submarines as Mr Smith tore into President Macron for his behaviour.

The comments come as France continues to rage after Australia tore up a massive €31 billion diesel-powered submarine building contract with the French to pursue the means to produce nuclear submarines with the help of US technology under the new Aukus pact.
It is one of the countries’ biggest defence partnerships in decades and intends to counter growing Chinese military power analysts say, but China’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian said it “seriously undermines regional peace and stability and intensifies the arms race”.
The scrapping of the deal is a major blow to big promises made by President Macron who told the French following his election that “France is back” alluding to the role the country will play on the world stage.
It comes as France has recalled its diplomats in the USA and Australia as they simmer with rage at the new deal they’ve been left out of.

France’s Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian told France Info radio the deal snub is “really a stab in the back.”
The new partnership was announced during a joint virtual press conference between US President Joe Biden, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson, and Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison on Wednesday.
On Thursday, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson said the pact would “preserve security and stability around the world” and generate “hundreds of high-skilled jobs”.
He stressed how the relationship with France was “rock solid” despite the brutal snub.
