UFC’s Paddy Pimblett has revealed that Bruno Fernandes is the footballer he’d most like to fight as the Manchester United star is ‘so overrated’.

Pimblett impressed on his debut at UFC Vegas 36 earlier this month as he secured a first round TKO victory over Luigi Vendramini.

The 26-year-old, who supports Liverpool, was asked which footballer he’d want to go up against in the octagon and had no hesitation in naming Fernandes.

Speaking on the BBC’s MOTDX, Pimblett said: ‘I’d probably pick one from each team. But I reckon just because he’s so overrated, Bruno Fernandes. No, he’s not world-class. I don’t think anyone in that United team is world-class apart from (Cristiano) Ronaldo.’

Fernandes has scored 44 goals in 85 appearances for United.

Although he was knocked down in the early stages of his clash with Vendramini, Pimblett managed to respond impressively.

Pimblett, known as The Baddy, was full of confidence after the fight and told Michael Bisping: ‘I’m here to take over lad. I’m the new cash cow.

‘I’m the new main man on the UFC roster. I best be in the game next week lad. That simple – I want to be in. I’m the new man, lad. People are going to be calling me out now. You know who the boy is.

‘Dana, Shelby, let’s get England back on lad. Let’s back to the UK. Get your boy in the main event or the co-main and I’ll blow the roof off the gaff.’

Speaking in his press conference after the fight, Pimblett admitted that he was somewhat fortunate early in the fight but went on to declare ‘the new king’s here’.

He said: ‘I can’t help myself lad, I like fighting. Some people just hit me sometimes, which is pretty stupid ’cause it can go wrong, but it didn’t go wrong there.

‘It was never gonna go wrong. This is my destiny. I’m here and I’m the new kid on the block lad. I told you the other day, ‘I’m gonna get a first-round finish’.

‘People think I’m a grappler and I’ve just shut everyone up. I can strike, I can grapple, I can wrestle. I’ve got the personality, I’ve got the look. The new king’s here lad.’
