Stuart Broad reveals he WILL travel for Ashes tour with England… but players’ concerns over Covid-hit tour remain amid strict 14-day quarantine for families

  • England will face Australia in the Ashes this winter amid the backdrop of Covid
  • Some players are threatening to skip the tour if quarantine rules aren’t relaxed
  • England are worried they will be disadvantaged by the tight restrictions
  • Stuart Broad has committed to the Ashes but there are concerns to iron out

Stuart Broad says he is ‘committed to going’ on the Ashes tour this winter.

Although the ECB have yet to finalise the Covid conditions their players will be required to adhere to, Broad writes in his Mail on Sunday column: ‘If you asked me if I would be happy to get on a plane to Australia in November, I would say yes.’

England’s Test players were recently invited through an online questionnaire distributed by the Team England Player Partnership to indicate under what circumstances they were prepared to join the tour.

A number of players are expected to skip the tour if there is no relaxing of the 14-day quarantine rules for families. The ECB are in negotiations with Cricket Australia.

Players are expecting a starkly different Ashes experience to those in the past when they fly across the world to get going on the 22nd November.

By the fifth and final test in Perth the England squad will have been in Australia for almost two months, with the Covid-hit tour set to end on January 18.
