Joey Gallo credits mechanical adjustment for recent homer surge

Joey Gallo hit two more homers Friday, giving him five in his last four starts. He has six multi-homer games this season.

He attributed some of the turnaround to mechanical adjustments he has made after looking at video with the Yankees’ hitting coaches.

“Over the years, when I’m taking my best swing, I have a little more open stance and I’m getting into my back leg more,’’ Gallo said after the Yankees’ 8-0 blowout win over the Indians at the Stadium. “For a few weeks, I’ve been more flailing a little bit and I didn’t have much strength. I knew at some point I’d get going.”

“This game is so much about being on time,’’ Aaron Boone said. “When you’re pitch-hunting, you’ve got to take advantage of the pitches you want. That’s what he’s doing lately. … He’s such a dynamic player, he was gonna come around eventually.”

DJ LeMahieu was lifted for Tyler Wade as a defensive replacement in the ninth inning, with Gio Urshela moving over to third and Wade going to short. Boone said LeMahieu is “banged up,” but OK.

After a rough week in the field — both at shortstop and second base — Gleyber Torres was significantly better Friday, particularly on a pair of double plays hit by Cleveland. On the first one, Torres took himself to second before bouncing a throw that Anthony Rizzo picked at first. On the second, Torres fired a strong throw to first after LeMahieu fielded it at third.
