EastEnders star Nina Wadia opened up about odds of winning Strictly ‘Not good!’

Nina Wadia, 52, is set to take the dancefloor for the first time on Saturday night as Strictly Come Dancing returns to BBC. The former EastEnders star joined James Martin on his cooking show Saturday Morning and discussed how she was feeling about her debut. She admitted that she had seen the odds, and she wasn’t surprised to see that her odds set her to be the first celebrity out of the competition.

James began introducing Nina to the show: “You must be mad, you’re gonna need that drink!” pointing to the glass of wine she had beside her.

“Congratulations, you’re going to need it,” he told her, she replied laughing: “I’ll start now, cheers, thank you!”

Speaking on his own experiences of the show, James said: “You don’t know what you’re letting yourself in for.

“They said to you probably, they sold it to me going ‘It’s two to three hours rehearsal a day, two to three hours OFF a day is about all you get.”

Shocked at his revelation, Nina gasped and said: “Are you serious? You’re frightening me now!”

He then asked her: “How are the odds looking?, to which she replied: “Not good!, I’m first out, apparently!”

Comforting her, James said: “No, you’ll be fine, people love you anyway!” He soon went on to ask, “Are you not busy enough or what?”

Giggling, she replied: “Look, from a very young age, I have loved to dance, doesn’t make me a dancer, but I loved to dance.

“You’ll do great,” James reassured her before moving on to cooking his seabass dish for Nina.

The celebrities taking on the challenge this year include McFly singer Tom Fletcher, TV presenter AJ Odudu, comedian Robert Webb, Chef John Whaite, Children’s presenter Rhys Stephenson, Entrepreneur Sara Davies MBE, Actress Katie McGlynn, TV Presenter Dan Walker, Social Media influencer Tilly Ramsey, Actor Greg Wise, Olympic swimmer Adam Peaty, Loose Women presenter Judi Love, EastEnders actress Jose Ayling-Ellis and TV presenter Ugo Monye.

The soap actress is best known for playing the role of Zainab Masood on the serial drama and left the soap in 2013.

Sitting down on Lorraine, Nadia admitted she didn’t think she would win the competition due to her lack of dance experience.

Taking her seat after the big reveal, the first words out of Nadia’s mouth was, “I am so scared!”

Christine Lampard, who was filling in for Lorraine at the time, asked Nadia if she “actually liked dancing”, to which Nadia revealed she didn’t.

Nadia also revealed: “I think I should do this before I am too old and before I can’t walk anymore because I think this is going to be the last year I am going to wear heels.”
