'We lost a little bit of the plot': Jurgen Klopp admits his side lost their way against AC Milan

‘We lost a little bit of the plot’: Jurgen Klopp admits his Liverpool side imploded against AC Milan after conceding twice before half-time, but credits them for bouncing back with ‘two incredible goals’

  • Liverpool beat AC Milan 3-2 in their opening Champions League game
  • The Reds dominated the first half but let in two goals just before half-time
  • Goals from Mohamed Salah and Jordan Henderson rescued the victory

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp admits his side lost the plot at one stage during their victory over AC Milan but is very pleased with what he saw for the majority of the game.

The Reds started the Champions League clash brilliantly, opening the scoring courtesy of an own goal before Mo Salah was denied from the penalty spot.

It was pure dominance for most of the first half but two Milan goals out of nothing just before the break stunned the Anfield crowd.

However, Liverpool found their footing again after half-time and ultimately won thanks to a well worked goal from Salah and a fine half volley from Jordan Henderson.

‘Very exciting and very entertaining with 10-15 minutes where we lost a little bit of the plot or whatever and were not compact any more,’ Klopp said following the group stage opener.

‘We got carried away with our own football and complicated matters. They scored two goals and then we played again good football and scored two wonderful goals.’

‘We started incredibly well. We played a super, super game. An intense game but football wise as well. We played in all the spaces we had to play and didn’t give them anything until… I’m not sure exactly. We got punished for it in the last few minutes of the first-half but it started earlier.

We got carried away by our own football. We didn’t keep it simple anymore, offensively and defensively we were not organised anymore. When we are organised,

‘They played in between and scored two goals. But it did not feel like we cannot come back. It was clear that we had to immediately get back to how we started and then we scored wonderful goals, to be honest. Both were incredible. It is deserved but we had 10 minutes where Milan nearly changed the whole tie.
