Romelu Lukaku can help Timo Werner rediscover his best Chelsea form, according to boss Thomas Tuchel. Werner has largely struggled since his huge £47million transfer from RB Leipzig last summer.
There was plenty of hype about Werner when he initially arrived at Stamford Bridge. The 25-year-old had scored 28 Bundesliga goals in the season before he joined.
But he netted just six times in the Premier League for Chelsea last term. Jorginho registered one more and each of them were penalties.
Werner managed 11 strikes in all competitions, and one was the clinching goal in the Champions League semi-final second leg victory over Real Madrid.
Lukaku’s blockbuster £97.5m arrival from Inter Milan prompted suggestions that the 25-year-old could find himself sat in reserve for much of the season.
However, Tuchel has insisted that the pair can play together.

“We have a squad where we are not too many players, but players with high quality and high ambition and Timo is a guy we count on and it is absolutely necessary that we have someone on a high level and he can be decisive for us.”
Chelsea remain unbeaten in the Premier League and are strong contenders to challenge the likes of Manchester City, Liverpool and Manchester United for the title.
The West Londoners host Aston Villa tomorrow but Tuchel has had several players return late from international duty.
USA forward Christian Pulisic came back on crutches with an ankle injury.
Tuchel continued: “You navigate through a week like this with six or seven players here for two weeks. You have a little group so you fill it up a little bit with academy guys if they are here.
“Thursday and Friday, the building was more or more full. Friday, was the first day, we have done it but it is not the nicest situation. You lack the feeling and rhythm.
“Everyone has come from different trips, different styles of play, demanding games and experiences.”
