West Brom are signing former Sheffield United defender Kean Bryan.

The 24-year-old former Manchester City academy player is a free agent after his contract ran out at Bramall Lane this summer.

He underwent a medical at Albion on Monday and will provide competition for Valerien Ismael’s defence as well as cover in midfield.

Albion have been rocked by injuries at centre back with Matt Clarke and Dara O’Shea both on the treatment table.

Clarke injured his hamstring in the win at Blackburn and is expected to be out for another four weeks.

However, Albion fear O’Shea could be out even longer after injuring his ankle while playing for the Republic of Ireland against Portugal last Wednesday.

The 22-year-old underwent a scan in Dublin after that game before returning to Albion and there are concerns he faces four months on the sidelines.

O’Shea’s ankle has been so badly swollen that he has still to see a specialist though hopes to see one this week.

Bryan played 13 times for Sheffield United in the Premier League last season and was offered a new deal but opted to let his contract run down.

Fulham and Swansea had also shown an interest but his signing is expected to be confirmed by Albion on Tuesday
