WHAT TO DO

To tone your abs, celebrity personal trainer Nadya Fairweather (u-shape.co.uk) says, get yourself into a box position on your mat.

Think about your breathwork, in and out of your nose, and try not to hold your breath at any time.

Once ready, with your feet and knees hip-width apart, engage your core and lift your knees off the mat without compromising your box position.

To keep your spine straight, keep your eyes looking just beyond the edge of the mat. Hold this position as long as you can. Practise this once a day.

WHAT TO EAT

What you eat and drink can also improve your stomach muscles. Nutritionist Lola Biggs (together health.co.uk) says fruits and veggies are very nutrient dense, meaning that they are low in calories but high in antioxidants, fibre and a variety of minerals and vitamins.

They may also help fat burning and are good for ensuring that energy is more sustained throughout the day.

Carbohydrates take water to metabolise and can make you feel bloated. You should opt for complex, starchy and fibre-filled ones, such as brown rice, oats, leafy greens and sweet potatoes, which are digested more slowly.
