Labor day is here at last and, if you’re spending the day at home, there are plenty of TV offerings to dive into.
From workplace comedies to space documentaries to classic summer slashers, there’s something for everyone. Here’s a selection of shows to watch while we unofficially close out the summer.
“Harry & Meghan: Escaping the Palace,” Lifetime, 8 p.m.
This is the third movie in Lifetime’s series fictionalizing the relationship between Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. There was “A Royal Romance,” in 2018, “Becoming Royal,” in 2019, and now the couple’s dramatic saga of moving to America and splitting with the rest of the royal family is chronicled here. Yes, it includes a fictionalized depiction of the infamous Oprah interview and the ominous “Firm.” Sydney Morton stars as Markle while Jordan Dean plays Harry.
“Friends,” TBS, 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
If you want to kick back with Phoebe (Lisa Kudrow) Joey (Matt LeBlanc), and the gang, TBS is having a “Friends” marathon on Labor Day. The selection spans the entire series and wraps up in the afternoon with Season 10’s two-part series finale, “The Last One.”
“Countdown: Inspiration4 Mission to Space,” Netflix
This new five-part documentary special hails from the director of “The Last Dance” and is among the first Netflix documentaries to cover an event in near real-time. It will go behind the scenes of the first civilian mission to space, following the four crew members who are raising money and awareness for St Jude Children’s Research hospital — from their selection to their preparation to the mission itself and the aftermath.
“A.P. Bio,” Peacock
With Season 4 newly released and all four seasons streaming, it’s a good time to dive into this workplace comedy. Appropriately for Labor Day, “A.P. Bio” centers around Jack Griffin (Glenn Howerton, “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia”), who must acclimate to his job as high school biology teacher when his Harvard job falls through.
“Harry Potter,” HBO Max
The eight films about the famous boy wizard have switched streaming services a few times, but as of September, they’re all available on HBO Max. If you want to have a movie marathon from the comfort of your couch, accio that remote.
“Slumdog Millionaire,” Hulu
Dev Patel has made headlines lately thanks to his new arthouse film “The Green Knight,” and so have game shows, thanks to the endless scandals around finding a new “Jeopardy!” host. So, why not revisit this timely Oscar winner that launched Patel’s career and also dives into the world of game shows — not to mention, characters who hustle.
“I Know What You Did Last Summer,” Amazon
If it’s summer, there’s a slasher movie, so if you want to celebrate as the season nears its end, all three of the “I Know What You Did Last Summer” flicks are available on Amazon. The original 1997 movie is a Who’s Who of ’90s stars — Sarah Michelle Gellar, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Ryan Philippe, Freddie Prinze Jr. — starring as a group of teenagers with a dark secret that comes to light when a mysterious killer seeks revenge. It’s also a good time to revisit this story, since there’s a new “I Know What You Did Last Summer” TV series coming out on Oct 15 (also on Amazon).
