Is ‘Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings’ on Disney+?

On the third day of September, my true love gave to me: ten legendary rings! Okay, maybe that’s stretching the original song just a bit. But Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is landing in theaters today with so much fantastical action you’ll feel like someone got you a present. Wondering if you can watch at home on Disney+ while you practice your backflips? Keep reading to find out if Shang-Chi is streaming.

The martial-arts film stars a whole handful of new Marvel players like Simu Liu as the titular Shang-Chi, Awkwafina as his pal Katy, Tony Leung as Xu Wenwu, Michelle Yeoh as Jiang Nan, and a handful of other folks. This is only Marvel’s second movie back in theaters, after their summer release of Black Widow.

Ready to find the truth behind the mysterious Ten Rings organization? Here’s where and when Shang-Chi will be streaming:

Is Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings on streaming? How to watch Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings:

Not yet. Right now, the only way to watch Shang-Chi is in a movie theater — masked-up, we hope! You can find a showing near you here.

Is Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings on Disney+ Premier Access?

No. Even though Shang-Chi is a Disney movie and, like Black Widow, it’s being released by Marvel Studios, it still won’t land on Premier Access. This is the first Marvel film to only hit theaters — and not Disney+ Premier Access — upon first release since the pandemic began. (Maybe a safer move by the Walt Disney Corporation, which is currently being sued by ScarJo for their streaming release of Black Widow. Or maybe not safer, as the cases of Delta variant rise. Who knows?)

Will Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings be on Disney+?

Probably! Unlike Free Guy, Disney’s recent release that was actually a 20th Century film, Shang-Chi could head to Disney+ as soon as its 45 day exclusive theatrical window ends. However, Disney has been a little dicey in terms of the language they’ve used, noting that they’re excited to see the movie hit “streaming” after that 45 day window for their viewers, but never specifying it is heading to Disney+. A rep for Disney+ also confirmed to Decider that specific plans are yet to be announced. So while Shan-Chi could head to Disney+ right after that 45 day window, it could also head to Premium Video on Demand (PVOD) for rental, or even, I guess, Hulu. Probably not Hulu, though. Sorry, Hulu.

And that all said, if Shang-Chi does head to Disney+, we also don’t know if it will be on the free (meaning included with your subscription) tier, or as a Premier Access release at $29.99, or some other price point. Short version: as a Marvel movie released by Disney, Shang-Chi will hit Disney+ at some point; when and how, we don’t yet know.

When will Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings be streaming? When will Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings be available on Disney+?

While no official streaming date for Shang-Chi has been announced, the movie should be available on Disney+ or video-on-demand around 45 days after its initial Sept. 3 release. And after our calculations, that means we can expect Shang-Chi anytime after Monday, Oct. 18. Start those countdowns now!
