Lorraine Kelly admits Piers Morgan 'crossed line' on GMB but says it's a 'shame' he left

ITV star Lorraine Kelly, 61, has spoken candidly about her colleague and friend Piers Morgan’s exit from Good Morning Britain earlier in the year, admitting that he “crossed a line” during his time on-air. The host of self-titled show Lorraine applauded the outspoken TV personality for “completely changing” the landscape of breakfast TV, before admitting that it was a “shame” he had now left.

In a new interview, the Scottish star commended Piers’ journalistic talents.

Lorraine said: “As far as breakfast television goes, he completely changed it.

“Sometimes he’d go right up to the line and now and again crossed the line.”

She went on to brand his exit from the ITV breakfast show a “shame”, before adding that they remain close.

Speaking on GMB, he said: “I’m sorry, I don’t believe a word she said… I wouldn’t believe it if she read me a weather report.”

He then clashed with ITV weather reporter Alex Beresford over the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s comments, which resulted in him storming off the set.

Hours later, ITV released a statement confirming the presenter’s departure from the show after six years fronting it alongside Susanna Reid.

It read: “Following discussions with ITV, Piers Morgan has decided now is the time to leave Good Morning Britain. ITV has accepted this decision and has nothing further to add.”

Following the broadcaster’s update, Piers took to Twitter to reveal that he stood firmly behind his remarks.

He wrote: “On Monday, I said I didn’t believe Meghan Markle in her Oprah interview.

“I’ve had time to reflect on this opinion, and I still don’t. If you did, OK. Freedom of speech is a hill I’m happy to die on.”

He ended the tweet: “Thanks for all the love, and hate. I’m off to spend more time with my opinions.”
