Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall both sported full tartan checks today as they visited a heritage and community centre in Aberdeenshire before taking a stroll around a nearby village.
The couple, known as the Duke and Duchess of Rothesay when they’re north of the border, looked to be in jovial spirits as they unveiled a plaque to mark the opening of the Ballater Community and Heritage Hub on Tuesday.
Charles and Camilla also enjoyed a quick promenade around the Scottish village, chatting to locals – including a pet dog – and stopping to visit the Cambus O’May Suspension Bridge which is back in action following an ongoing repair project.

The Balleter centre aims to support the community and social outcomes for people living in the Royal Deeside region and, following the unveiling of the official plaque, the couple headed into the village to speak to local business owners.
Well-wishers greeted the pair and they stopped to chat to an employee at Shorty’s, an ice cream parlour in the centre.
For the visit, the heir to the throne wore a smart tweed blazer, waistcoat and a crisp white shirt to finish the heritage look, alongside maroon socks and black brogues.
Prince Charles has been wearing the Balmoral tartan since his early childhood, with photos showing him sporting it as far back as his seventh birthday in 1955.
Meanwhile, Camilla opted for a black, grey and red check, which she wore in a knee-length skirt covered with an elegant frilled cream blouse and grey waistcoat. She complemented the skirt with a matching shawland caramel-hued shoes.
