Petrol and diesel drivers could be fined £160 for driving in London after car tax changes

Transport for London (TfL) warns drivers could be issued with a Penalty Charge Notice (PCN) if they drive within the expanded ULEZ zone and fail to pay the £12.50 per day fee. Drivers will be able to reduce their charge to just £80 if the penalty is paid within 14 days.

Drivers who paid by post but did not allow at least 10 days for this to clear could also be issued fines.

They said: “We may issue a Penalty Charge Notice (PCN) if you drive within the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) without meeting emissions standards or paying the appropriate daily charge.”

They added: “You may receive separate PCNs for each charging day that you drive within the ULEZ.

“Please remember that the charging hours are from midnight to midnight.

After this, drivers will be issued to enforcement agents or bailiffs to recover the money owed.

Drivers can view whether they are liable for any PCN fees through the TfL website online.

All drivers need to do is input their PCN details on the letter and number plate information to see any outstanding costs.

Drivers can also challenge a PCN fee online if they feel the penalty was wrongly issued.
