Stunning video shows calm in the eye of Category 4 Hurricane Ida

Here’s a stunning view of the serene weather occurring inside the eye of ferocious Hurricane Ida.

The footage, which was taken by a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration P-3 aircraft, shows the calm atmosphere inside the eye of the storm as it headed toward the coast of Louisiana on Sunday.

“Stunning video taken from inside the eye of #Ida this morning by the [National Environmental Satellite, Data, and Information Service] Ocean Winds Research team,” the National Hurricane Center wrote on Twitter.

The storm, which is currently a Category 4 hurricane, has rapidly intensified. It is expected to landfall early Sunday afternoon.

As Ida barreled toward the Gulf Coast, its top winds increased by 45 mph to 150 mph in five hours, forecasters said.
