Tottenham have reportedly been dealt a blow in their pursuit of Adama Traore with Wolves determined to hold onto their star winger before the window slams shut.

Traore, 24, has been the subject of strong interest from the North Londoners this summer, with Spurs boss Nuno Espirito Santo keen to reunite with the Spaniard having mentored him at Molineux during his spell in charge of the club.

The two Premier League sides have held talks over a transfer for the speedster, with the West Midland outfit already rejecting a loan deal which included a £5million loan fee and an option to buy at the end of the season.

Now, the Telegraph reports that Wolves are adamant that they will not sell the Spaniard this summer, serving a severe blow to Nuno’s bid to work with the Wolves star again.

Traore currently has two years remaining on his deal and is understood to have held an interest in working with Nuno again, with the Portuguese able to get strong performances out of the maverick winger during their time together.

Yet Traore’s openness to a move has not altered Wolves’ stance, with the 24-year-old viewed as an integral member of Bruno Lage’s squad, having already made a bright start to the new campaign.

Lage was quizzed on Traore’s future following his side’s 4-0 victory over Nottingham Forest on Tuesday and said:  ‘Yes, I think so [he will stay], we want to create a strong side, a better side to be competitive.

‘We need competition for a long Premier League season and the League Cup, if players are not fit we need people to come in for them.’

Meanwhile, Spurs have agreed a £14,6m deal to sign 18-year-old Papa Sarr from Metz, with the youngster expected to stay with the Ligue 1 club for the season on loan.

Nuno is also hoping to offload unwanted players before the window closes at the end of the month, with Serge Aurier and Tanguy Ndombele expected to leave the club.
