Sha’Carri Richardson branded rival runner Allyson Felix a fake after Felix called for people to support Richardson during a TV appearance Tuesday.
Speaking a fortnight after winning her final Olympic medal – gold in the 4×400 relay – Felix expressed sympathy for Richardson after she was booted for the Games for doing weed.
Speaking to Steven A Smith, who is guest-hosting Jimmy Kimmel’s show, Felix said: ‘She’s obviously been through so much. I hope that people rally around her.
‘Obviously, she has a great personality and she’s brought a lot of attention to the sport. I think she’ll be in the sport for a very long time. I think more than anything, for all athletes, there’s so much that goes into it — we just, you know, give her the support that she needs.’
But Richardson did not take kindly to the show of support, and posted on Instagram hours later, writing: ‘Encouraging words on tv shows are just as real as well nothing at all.’
Then Wednesday morning, Richardson posted another cryptic message on Instagram: ‘Be a good person but don’t waste time proving it.’
It’s unclear if there’s an underlining, private feud between the two sprinters, but the post seems to indicate that Richardson didn’t think Felix was sincere in her answer.

Richardson is an up-and-coming 21-year-old track star and one of the fastest women in the world.
But she’s become a lightning rod of controversy since a positive marijuana test at the U.S. Olympic Trials disqualified her from competing in Tokyo.
She has owned up to the weed violation and said she was ‘blind by hurt’ after learning that her biological mother died from a reporter.
Some have called for the Olympics to ban the weed violation after it’s become legal in some states in the US.
Richardson recently returned to competition but finished in last-place against the 100-meter Olympic medalists.
Most sprinters have declined to answer questions about Richardson or even laughed them off. But Felix didn’t.
Felix is one of the most decorated U.S. track athlete in Olympic history with her 11 medals, including gold and bronze in Tokyo.
