'It's in avoid zone!' Defence minister on the spot as Naga exposes key Kabul issue

BBC Breakfast presenter Naga Munchetty grilled Armed Forces Minister James Heappey on how Afghans seeking to escape the Taliban will be able to be processed now Kabul Airport has been designated as a no-go zone. In an overnight warning to Britons in the area, the British Government said intelligence showed a terrorist attack near the airport was now “imminent.” But Ms Munchetty questioned how people trying to flee will be able to secure their visa amid reports that the processing centre is in the “avoid” zone.”

Ms Munchetty said: “One of the processing centres, the processing centre, is a hotel which is in the middle of the area people are being told to avoid.

“What does that mean in terms of processing people?”

Mr Heappey said: “It means, I’m afraid, exactly as it sounds.”
