'God help you, America!' Fears for future of US as Joe Biden's presidency in doubt

Joe Biden has faced increasing criticism after refusing to budge from his pledge to withdraw US troops from Afghanistan by the deadline of August 31. This comes despite tens of thousands of people still desperately attempting to get out of the country and escape the brutal regime quickly enforced by the Taliban. Now Express.co.uk readers have lashed out at the US President, warning Americans have already lost trust in him – just eight months after he was elected over predecessor Donald Trump.

They have also raised serious doubts over the ability of Vice President Kamala Harris to replace him.

Reacting to our initial story, one Express.co.uk reader raged: “Biden is bad but Harris will be worse yet.

“And don’t forget, if Harris moves up to POTUS, that harridan Pelosi becomes VP.

“God help America.”

A second person also said: “God help you, America,” to which someone else replied: “We said that from the start of Biden’s clownship as POTUS.”

Another reader commented: “More like America on the brink as plans come to fruition Harris was always meant to be President.

“RIP USA.”

While a fourth reader added: “The American electorate have been ripped off in the biggest scam know to man.”

He said: “Joe Biden’s extended honeymoon with the US media is over.

“Amid the fiasco of the Afghanistan withdrawal, the fact-checkers have turned on him.

“There will be no turning back.”

Writing in the Telegraph, he explained: “Most of the American media were so unhinged by their loathing of Donald Trump, and so excited by the prospect of reviving the Ray-Banned glory days of the Obama administration, that they promoted Biden as the ‘normal’ candidate and protected him from questions about his record and abilities. No longer.

“The talking heads who sold the wars in the early 2000s are back, explaining why withdrawal is strategically mad, and that we’re only a drone strike or two away from victory.

“The nuance – withdrawal is overdue by about nineteen years, but Biden’s handling of it has been chronically inept – is lost.”

Speaking during a press conference from the White House on Tuesday evening, Mr Biden insisted he wants all US troops to be withdrawn from Afghanistan ahead of the August 31 deadline.

He said: “There was strong agreement among the leaders both about the evacuation mission underway as well as the need to co-ordinate our approach to Afghanistan as we move forward.

“First, on evacuation, we agreed we will continue our close co-operation to get people out as efficiently and safely as possible.

“We are currently on a pace to finish by August 31, the sooner we can finish the better. Each day of operations brings added risk to our troops, but the completion by August 31 depends upon the Taliban continuing to co-operate, allow access to the airport for those who we are transporting now, and no disruption to our operations.

“In addition, I have asked the Pentagon and the State Department for contingency plans to adjust the timetable should that become necessary.”
