WhatsApp finally fixing its biggest flaw with an update that can't come soon enough

WhatsApp has had a busy few months rolling out a number of changes to its hugely popular chat app. Recent updates have included joinable calls, a more simple way to switch between Android and iPhone plus the launch of multi-device support which allows chats to be sent on numerous gadgets without the need for a smartphone. But it seems the Facebook-owned firm isn’t stopping there with a number of reports suggesting more changes are inbound including one that will finally fix a huge irritation with this service.

If you’ve ever attempted to send a chat via your iPad you’ll know how frustrating it is. Right now there is no dedicated app for Apple’s tablet which has long been a major nightmare for millions of people who love using these bigger devices every day.

Luckily, it seems that this highly irritating issue will be fixed in an upcoming update which will finally see chats appearing on this bigger screen. According to the ever-reliable team at WABetainfo, who trawl through WhatsApp’s beta software, the firm is working on a release right now.

In a post on Twitter, WABetainfo said: “WhatsApp is finally working on multi-device 2.0, and you can use iPad as new linked device.

“Android tablets are also planned to support multi-device on WhatsApp for Android! It’s under development and it will be released in a future update.”

That’s great news for Apple lovers but it’s not the only change that could be coming from WhatsApp in the coming weeks and months.

The next big upgrade will allow Android to get more options when sending disappearing messages.

Right now, you can set a chat to self destruct after 7 days which means it will no longer be available for anyone to read.

A future update could add the option for chats to disappear within 24-hours or a longer 90-day period as well.

It’s thought this feature will launch first on Galaxy devices with a wider release then expected on more Android phones. There’s currently no word on an iPhone release but it’s likely the feature will arrive on these devices at a later date.

In a post on its website, WABetainfo confirmed: “WhatsApp was developing a new option for disappearing messages, that automatically delete messages after 24 hours. This option has been spotted in the 2.21.9.6 Android beta update and it was under development.

“The option is still under development, but WhatsApp is now working to introduce another option: 90 days! Yes, disappearing messages can expire after 90 days, in a future update.”
