Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has reacted to his side’s 1-1 draw with Southampton. The Red Devils went into the game looking to build on their 5-1 battering of Leeds. But that didn’t happen, with the Red Devils having to settle for a point.
Manchester United fell behind against Southampton in the 30th minute.
Che Adams’ deflected strike trickled past David De Gea, with the ball cannoning off Fred in the buildup.
United huffed and puffed in the aftermath of that incident, with Bruno Fernandes particularly annoyed that a foul wasn’t awarded before Fred’s own goal.
But the Red Devils did manage to level through Mason Greenwood.
The England international’s scuffed effort was enough to earn United a point, with neither side then able to secure all three points.
And Solskjaer has now reacted, insisting Southampton’s goal shouldn’t have stood while also criticising Fred.

Goalscorer Greenwood also spoke out, saying: “There’s a little bit of disappointment.
“I think we should have got all three points with a late goal. Southampton did well. They defended well but I think we should have went for it after the equaliser but unfortunately we didn’t.
“It was a difficult game, Southampton defended well but in my eyes we dropped two points.
“When we got the equaliser we should have gone for the throats, the time went away and we did not get the winner towards the end.
“Paul Pogba is an excellent player and he helped with the goal, he is a clever player and we are glad to have him here.
“It is a good squad and excellent for players to be fighting for their place.”
On whether he felt Fernandes was fouled before Fred’s own goal, he said: “I think it’s come through the back of him.
“I thought it was a foul but it’s the referee’s decision at the end of the day and we can’t dwell on it.
“I understand they’re going to let more challenges go so the game keeps flowing which is a good idea, but if there’s a foul there’s a foul.”
Southampton’s Valentino Livramento believes a draw was a fair result, admitting it was a tough encounter.
“It’s a pleasure to play in front of these fans for the first time,” he said.
“When you first come out and they are chanting your name it’s a special feeling.
“I’m happy I can show on the biggest stage. I’ve been doing it in my youth days at Chelsea and I’m happy.
“We knew it was going to be a battle. Man Utd are a massive club and have quality all over the pitch.
“We knew the way we could compete was by being physical and aggressive with the press and hitting them on the counter.
“I feel we could have won the game, maybe could have lost the game, but a draw is a fair result.”
