Erling Haaland could reportedly leave Borussia Dortmund as soon as January, with his release clause potentially being moved forward.

The £64million release clause in his contract was understood to become active next summer, but that may no longer be the case.

And according to Marca, that could set off a bidding war, with Premier League giants Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea keen to swoop for the star striker, who is one of the hottest properties in Europe.

Haaland, just 21, has scored a frankly astonishing 62 goals in 63 appearances in all competitions for Dortmund.

And several European heavyweights, including Spanish pair Real Madrid and Barcelona, were linked with transfer interest this summer, but were put off by the German side’s reported asking price of around £150million.

However, it is possible clubs have held off on bidding for him, given the prospect of the clause becoming active earlier than expected.

Manchester City are looking for a new forward after record goalscorer Sergio Aguero’s departure to Barcelona, and with question marks over Gabriel Jesus. They want Tottenham’s Harry Kane, but may not be able to afford his asking price.

Their bitter rivals United currently have Edinson Cavani, 34, as the first choice striker, but he is expected to leave when his contract expires at the end of this campaign, so the Red Devils could move for Haaland then.

Thomas Tuchel’s Blues side spent a club-record £98m on signing striker Romelu Lukaku from Inter Milan earlier this month.
