Meanwhile, tax exemption letters are not automatically generated and sent to drivers to look into.

However, GOV.UK warns vehicles will not always be exempt from historic tax charges.

Cars will not be exempt from fees if it’s used for hire, for example as a taxi for paying customers.

Historic vehicles which are used commercially for trade or business ventures are also not eligible for tax exemption.
