Times Square shut down because of a ‘suspicious package,’ cops said

A tin that was left on a bench in Times Square was deemed “suspicious” and triggered a Times Square shut down Thursday afternoon, cops said.

Specialty units were called in around 12:30 p.m. after somebody spotted the tin on a bench at West 46th Street and Seventh Avenue.

“Preliminarily, it appears to be a tin,” a police spokeswoman said.

“Due to a police investigation please avoid the area of West 45 Street to 48 Street on Broadway to 7th Avenue in Manhattan,” the NYPD wrote on Twitter. “Update to follow.”
