Gossip Girl fans 'mad' as HBO confirms delay: 'Not fair how will I survive'

Fans of the series couldn’t contain their glee when Gossip Girl took to HBO to air its reboot in July. The viewers were excited to see how much the Upper Eastside had changed since its finale in 2012. However, network bosses caused fans to fume after announcing a huge mid-season delay.

With seven episodes underway, viewers became accustomed to the brand new series.

They were getting to know the new characters and adjusting to changes which occurred at the prestigious New York school.

One of the major differences in the show’s reboot is the cast.

Compared to the original series, they are more diverse and featured a bunch of new LGBT+ characters.

It even saw the unexpected return of the prequel cast member in episode four, as Georgina Spark’s (played by Michelle Trachtenberg)10-year-old son Milo (Azhy Robertson) surprised viewers with his appearance.

After a cliffhanger ending to episode six, fans were surprised when they saw the show would return in November after a mid-season break.

The viewers took to Twitter to air their frustrations about the delay, with one asking “Why.. when it was finally getting good.”

Another wrote: “November is such a long time for me to wait for the second half of the gossip girl reboot season one!”

Elsewhere, a major love triangle between Aki (Evan Mock), Max (Thomas Doherty) and Audrey (Emily Alyn Lind) reached fiery territory when they agreed to indulge in a threesome.

With these cliffhangers and the anticipated outrageous outcomes, this was another reason fans disliked waiting until November.

Under the announcement on Twitter, a viewer commented: “How are we meant to survive three months without the latest gossip from the upper east side!”

Another came to a realisation: “Actually, I was mad about y’all coming back in November but then I realized thanksgiving dinners NEVER MISS on gg.”

“GG ?! November !!! You’re putting us on hiatus for two months after the way that last episode ended?! Have you gone mad girl lol?” a fan wrote.

One fuming fan aired their frustration and tweeted: “ARE U OK? NOVEMBER? THAT’S SOO FAR PLS HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO LIVE WITHOUT GOSSIP GIRL WEEKLY EPISODES?”

Although HBO streamers can expect more episodes after the mid-season break, the network is yet to release a premiere date.

Perhaps the series is keeping its audience waiting in anticipation – for the surprise appearance of another original cast member.

Nevertheless, fans will have to tune in to find out the fate of their favourite characters and see how far Gossip Girl will take its exposé.

The Gossip Girl reboot is available to watch on HBO Max in the US, and will be available sometime later this year on BBC iPlayer in the UK.
