Avengers Endgame plot hole proves Captain America's ending wasn't what Steve envisioned

At the conclusion of Avengers Endgame, Captain America returned the Infinity Stones to their points in the past. However, Steve Rogers missed his window back to 2023 and had instead decided to live in the 1940s with Peggy Carter. This was supposed to be the quiet life he had envisioned after years of serving others.

However, a new theory argues there’s a huge Avengers Endgame plot hole in what happened off-screen.

According to Screen Rant, there would be only two possibilities for Captain America in this new timeline – going public or hiding.

Steve and Peggy could have announced that he had been thawed much earlier after being frozen during World War II, while his variant remained on ice.

But then the Avenger would have had to take up his duties as Captain America again, owing to his devotion to service.

On the other hand, if Captain America had decided to keep his existence in the 1940s a secret, he would still struggle to have a quiet life.

After all, Peggy would still be working for S.H.I.E.L.D. and no doubt friends and family would recognise that her husband looked exactly like Steve.

This would mean he’d have to live like a hermit with his wife pretending she was single.

But beyond this theory, there might be a way for Marvel to solve this apparent Avengers Endgame plot hole.

Of course, the people of that other reality would later discover there were two Caps, but the Sacred Timeline’s Steve would have already left.

You’d have hoped he’d have taken Peggy with him before her death around 2016, although being a variant she could well have lived shorter or longer.

Whatever the case, Marvel Studios have some explaining to do at some as they further explore the multiverse in the MCU, which no doubt they will.

Avengers Endgame is streaming on Disney+ now.
