Spider-Man: No Way Home 'could be the final Marvel Spidey movie'

Later this year Tom Holland will star in his third Spider-Man movie: No Way Home. The film is set to introduce a collection of different Spider-Men, including the likes of former stars of the character Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield. Although Spidey is one of the most popular series in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, MJ star Zendaya says it could be coming to an end very soon.

Zendaya recently spoke candidly about the series’ future.

She said being a part of the series and filming the third movie “was so much fun” – but “also kind of bittersweet”.

The 24-year-old added: “We don’t know if we’re gonna do another one.

“Is it just gonna be three and done? Like, kind of normally you do three movies and that’s pretty much it.” (Via E! News)

Zendaya went on to add: “There’s been so many different Spideys before us … making everybody proud is a priority.”

The young star also spoke about what it was like being on set for No Way Home – the possible end to the Spidey series.

She said: “We were all just absorbing and taking the time to just enjoy the moment, being with each other and being so grateful for that experience. It’s pretty special to have grown up all together.”

Holland himself has also spoken out about bringing the Spider-Man series to an end in the past.

Spider-Man films have generally had a short shelf-life in the past.

Before Holland, Maguire was the most successful cinematic Spider-Man, appearing in three films before the series was cancelled.

It is also worth noting that Marvel rarely produces more than three solo movies for their superheroes.

The legendary Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr) had three solo films, before bowing out in Avengers Infinity War and Avengers Endgame.

Similarly, Captain America (Chris Evans) had three films – The First Avenger, The Winter Soldier and Civil War – before Marvel closed the chapter of his story.

The upcoming third Guardians movie, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3, has also been said to be the final film in the series.

With that in mind, will Spider-Man conclude after No Way Home?

Spider-Man No Way Home hits cinemas on December 17, 2021.
