China Covid panic as Beijing enters new lockdown regime – city sealed off with trains axed

All trains to the Chinese capital from high-risk areas of coronavirus have been suspended.

Earlier today, China reported 98 new confirmed coronavirus cases in the mainland for Sunday, up from 75 the day before.

From these new infections, 55 were locally transmitted, the health authority said.

This is up slightly from the 53 local cases reported a day earlier.

China also reported 60 new asymptomatic coronavirus cases, which it does not classify as confirmed infections.

This was almost double from the 37 announced for Saturday.

No new deaths linked to coronavirus were reported.

As of Sunday, the country had so far recorded 93,103 confirmed cases, with the cumulative death toll standing at 4,636.

Earlier on Monday, the latest data from the National Health Commission also showed China had administered some 16.7 million doses of Covid vaccines as of Sunday.
