Fern Britton details an eventful night at home – ‘Dead vole in kitchen…puke in lounge’

Fern Britton shared an insight into her homelife on social media this weekend. The author and former This Morning host amusingly informed her 88,100 Twitter followers that her cats had been engaging in their own version of the Olympic Games overnight.

Fern revealed that one of her pets had brought a dead vole into the house during the night.

It had been left in the kitchen for the television star.

In addition to the dead animal, she went on to find some cat sick in the living room after an eventful evening.

“The cats seem to have really caught on to the spirit of #Olympics,” she wrote on Twitter this morning.

“About a bronze I reckon,” the follower added, playing along with the analogy, before adding: “(Must try harder) By the way I’m currently reading The Postcard and loving it.”

Other pet owners also shared similar stories.

“Our Felix has done the high jump on the door frame he got gold,” another added.

A third chipped in: “I love this description of your home life with cats, my dogs on the other hand freestyle down the stairs and epic fail at pole vaulting the gate.”

A fourth said: “I was cat sitting for a friend for a weekend and her cats bought me, a vole, a field mouse and a mole, all dead, and then at midnight they released a mouse that was not dead but very lively. Managed to catch it with a Tupperware box while it was frozen in fear and I released it.”

The 64-year-old mum-of-four lives in Cornwall with her youngest children following her split from husband Phil Vickery after 20 years of marriage.

Fern is mum to Winnie, 19, who she shares with the TV chef, and twins Harry and Jack, 27, and Grace, 24, from her first marriage to Clive Jones.

In a new interview, she said the last few years had been “very hard”.

As well as separating from her partner, the TV star lost both of her parents in a short amount of time.

“The last three years have been very hard; I lost my parents, I lost my marriage.

“I lost my other home in Buckinghamshire, too, because Phil lives there now and I’m in Cornwall.

“But the magic I’ve found here is incredible,” she told Good Housekeeping magazine.

Fern’s father Tony Britton, an actor best known for starring in The Day of The Jackal, died in December 2019 at the age of 95.

Her mother Ruth had died the previous year.
