‘They don’t tend to go after men’ Adil Ray reacts to Ben Stokes news as Piers stays silent

In recent weeks, Piers Morgan, 56, has been vocal about female sport stars taking a career break due to mental health issues. Tonight, the BBC announced Ben Stokes, 30, will be away from cricket for a while to prioritise his health. BBC Sport said in a statement: “He’s made the decision to prioritise his mental wellbeing and to rest his left index finger, which has not fully healed following his return to competitive cricket.”

Fans were quick to notice that the journalist hadn’t commented on the news on his Twitter page this evening.

The father-of-four tends to post tweets on a daily basis, particularly about the latest headlines.

One Twitter user wrote: “Let’s see if Piers Morgan thinks Ben Stokes is weak and letting his team down.

“He has had so much to say regarding Simone Biles this week, let’s see how he feels when it’s someone playing in a sport he enjoys.”

Piers had been vocal about Naomi Osaka and Simone Biles’ respective statements in recent weeks.

Following the latter’s withdrawal from the Tokyo Olympics 2020, he tweeted: “Are ‘mental health issues’ now the go-to excuse for any poor performance in elite sport? What a joke.

“Just admit you did badly, made mistakes, and will strive to do better next time.

“Kids need strong role models, not this nonsense.”

After Simone’s performance, the 24-year-old said as part of a lengthy statement: “I just think mental health is more prevalent in sports right now.
