‘Scare living daylights’ Hazel Irvine on chat she had with Beth Tweddle on Simone Biles

She continued: “We were watching the events unfold. Without getting over old ground here, there was moment we had discussed after she had come in and did the first rotation on the vault.”

“This was the catalyst in her decision. Whatever was going on in the background, it was this moment that really conquered-tied her decision to say ‘No, I’m not going to go on today’.”

Chipping into the conversation as they replayed Biles’ performance, Tweddle said: “We were expecting a two and a half twist and as you can see here using this vault, she pulls out half- way through and just does the one and a half twist.

“But as you can see, her head was behind her. So clearly had pulled out of it. And gymnastics, the level of difficulty they are doing, the first priority is the safety of the athletes.”
