NCIS Hawaii release: Showrunner shares major update on Vanessa Lachey drama 'Wrapped'

Following the cancellation of NCIS: New Orleans earlier this year, CBS announced the NCIS would still continue to grow with the introduction of NCIS: Hawaii. The upcoming series marks a number of firsts for the NCIS universe, becoming the first spin-off filmed on the picturesque island as well as being led by the franchise’s first female lead, Jane Tennant (played by Vanessa Lachey). With a premiere date penned for Monday, September 10, showrunner Larry Teng took to Instagram recently to reveal that not only the pilot, but episode two have both wrapped.

Sharing a snap behind the scenes with the NCIS: Hawaii cast, Teng sparked a frenzy on social media with the existing new update.

He penned to his 15.9k followers: “After 22 days of filming, I can officially say that the pilot and episode 102 for @ncishawaiicbs is wrapped.

“I feel so lucky to collaborate with this amazing cast, this amazing group of producers, and more than anything, this amazing crew.

“They have held me up, worked long hours, and devoted their time, sweat and talents for this maiden voyage.”

Teng signed off: “It’s been an unforgettable experience. Mahalo for allowing me to be apart of this incredible ohana.”

And Teng wasn’t the only member of the NCIS: Hawaii crew overjoyed by the significant step in the series history.

Echoing the showrunner’s words, actor Jason Antoon – who will play cyber specialist Ernie for the NCIS team – added his own sentiments.

“We love you @tengstagram,” Antoon penned to the show’s boss. “Can’t wait for you to direct more episodes!

Echoing Antoon and Mills’ words, one fan responded: “Congratulations!! Looking forward to seeing everyone’s creative talents come together.”

“Eagerly waiting… [applause emoji], [love heart emoji],” commented a second, while a third added: “Can’t wait to see!”

Spoilers for exactly what lies ahead for Lachey’s character remain under wraps for now, but it still hasn’t stopped fans expecting big things from the new spin-off.

And its confirmed release date will also coincide with a pretty big change to the flagship series.

NCIS has typically aired on CBS in the USA on Tuesday evening but season 19 marks a new plan of action.

Instead, NCIS season 19 will premiere and recur on Monday evenings at 9pm.

NCIS: Hawaii will follow right after at 10pm local time as the universe continues to go from strength to strength.

Fellow spin-off NCIS: Los Angeles will return for its 13th run on Sunday, October 10.

NCIS: Hawaii premieres on CBS on Monday, September 20 on CBS.
