Waitrose to open 68 new shops across the UK in major expansion – 'great news'

Waitrose has confirmed it is expanding its partnership with Shell garages with 68 additional shops to start selling its food.

“We’re also delighted to bring our customers 800 new charging points for electric vehicles, including new rapid charging capabilities, as the UK moves more and more towards a sustainable transport network.”

General manager of Shell UK, Bernadette Williamson, also commented on the matter.

“This is great news for EV drivers across the UK, knowing they can easily, quickly and reliably charge up at Shell charge points while shopping at Waitrose.

“We want to make EV charging as hassle-free as possible and support our customers wherever they want to charge,” she explained.

On the Waitrose official website, shoppers can find the location of their nearest Shell garage that sells Waitrose food.

This move comes after sister company John Lewis announced it is expanding the number of Shell click and collect points this summer.

It will add new 80 garages where shoppers will be able to pick up their goods. John Lewis already has 1,000 Shell click and collect locations.

Waitrose recently announced their new policy regarding face masks.

The company said they “recommend” customers and staff to wear face coverings in-store, but acknowledged the decision is up to “each individual to take”.

Therefore, it’s no longer a legal requirement to wear a face mask while shopping at Waitrose and customers can opt to do their grocery shop without wearing one.

A spokesman for Waitrose said: “In line with Government guidance, we will recommend that our customers and partners in England continue to wear a face-covering, unless exempt, from July 19.

“The decision over whether to do so or not, when in our shops, will be for each individual to take, based on their own judgment.”
