Manchester United's Andreas Pereira talks up permanent Old Trafford exit

Manchester United’s Andreas Pereira talks up permanent Old Trafford exit after enjoying Lazio loan spell last summer… with Brazilian declaring that ‘Rome could be my definitive home’

  • Andreas Pereira is reportedly ready to cut his losses and leave Man United
  • The Brazilian midfielder spent the 2020-21 season out in Italy playing for Lazio
  • Pereira’s deal at Old Trafford runs until 2023 but it seems his future is elsewhere

Andreas Pereira once again finds himself looking for a way out of Manchester United after talking up the prospect of a return to Italy this summer.

The Brazilian has held ambitions of trying to secure a regular role in the United team but has found little joy and has had to make do with loans, the most recent being at Lazio last season.

Pereira, who made 33 appearances across all competitions for Lazio last season, is now looking for a way to stay in Rome.

‘I’d like to go back to the Biancoceleste [Lazio] if I was given more time. Rome could be my definitive home, I had a great time,’ Pereira told Gianluca Di Marzio.

‘I know I could do even better if I was given more space. Even the fans agree, they wrote to me about it on social networks.

‘At Lazio I have always given my best in the time I was granted. I think my performance could be better if I had more minutes and more freedom to play.

‘I love the style of play and the team spirit that exists in Serie A. Lazio have priority in my heart, but your country has won me over, why not come back one day if the opportunity arises?’

Pereira’s contract with United is set to expire in the summer of 2023, therefore Solskjaer is unlikely to let him go on the cheap.

But with a desire to add to his game-time, looking to force his way into Brazil’s plans for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, he knows a bit-part role at United won’t help his case.

‘I hope next season will be the best of my life, I’m working towards it,’ Pereira added.

‘Physically and mentally I’m ready to take responsibility on the pitch: I want to play.’
