Moment woman RUNS away as her boyfriend makes a very public proposal at baseball game

Is that a ‘No’ then?! Moment woman RUNS away as her boyfriend makes a very public proposal at Worcester Red Sox game

  • A viral video appears to show a man’s proposal being rejected in front of a crowd
  • Woman puts her hands up to her mouth and shakes her head before running off
  • Social media users initially expressed sympathy with the heartbroken man before questioning whether the whole thing was actually a stunt
  • Witnesses are split over what they saw, with some saying man seemed genuinely upset and others saying the speed of the woman’s reaction seemed odd

A marriage proposal in front of a crowded baseball stadium appears to have failed miserably after the would-be bride ran away from her boyfriend.

A video shows the woman’s cringeworthy reaction as a man kneels before her on what looks like the dugouts, holding open a ring box at a Worcester Red Sox minor league baseball game in Massachusetts.

The woman holds her hands up to her mouth as the crowd cheers and shakes her head before making a speedy exit through the bleachers.

A witness said the man then ran after the woman.

In the video, shocked fans can be heard saying ‘Oh my god’ in disbelief at what they’ve just seen.

Social media users initially expressed sympathy with the man for his very public embarrassment, which was beamed onto a huge screen at the game.

‘Salute for a fallen soldier,’ one wrote, while another commented simply: ‘Love is dead’.

But sympathy for the man quickly turned to suspicion with some saying the woman’s reaction seemed too quick and that the man didn’t seem that upset.

Footage of the apparently failed proposal at Polar Park stadium on Thursday has gone viral online.

The clip, shared by sports news website What’s the Word Massachusetts, racked up more than 111,200 views on Instagram alone.

Videos from other angles also show the proposal, with one YouTube clip claiming a source has said it was ‘very real’.

In one video shared on Twitter, the woman can be heard saying ‘I have to go’ repeatedly.

‘Staged & Fake,’ one Twitter user wrote.

‘I feel you but I want to believeeeee,’ another replied, alongside a crying with laughter emoji.

Photographer Ashley Green, who was at the game and witnessed the proposal, told Insider that she believed it may have been staged.

However Steven Wooster, a fan who said he was at the game too, told 98.5 The Sports Hub radio station that he thought the ‘horrifying’ scene was real because the man’s reaction seemed genuine.

‘I was sitting on the third-base side. I looked across and saw the gentleman in the purple jersey,’ he told the station in a phone call.

‘The woman was horrified after the proposal. She ran up the stairs. The gentleman ran after her with two of his buddies,’ he said, adding: ‘I saw the whole thing. It was horrifying.’

If real, it wouldn’t be the first time a failed marriage proposal has been caught on camera.

In March, devastating footage appeared to show a man’s proposal being rejected at a shopping mall in New Jersey.

A clip of the heartbreaking moment, which took place in front of a crowd of onlookers, showed the man having to be helped to his feet by onlookers after the rejection.

Social media users at the time also questioned the veracity of the clip.
