10 people shot in Chicago – including three teens – in two shootings within five minutes

  • Ten people were shot in two separate shootings in Chicago Wednesday evening 
  • Both shootings happened in within three blocks of each each in the North Lawndale section on the West Side of the city
  • It’s unclear if the two shootings are connected
  • All victims are being treated at hospitals. Two victims are in critical condition 
  • So far in 2021, there have been 1802 shootings, that’s a nine percent jump from this time last year and a 60percent jump from 2019 

Ten people were shot in the North Lawndale section on the West Side of Chicago Wednesday evening in two separate shootings about five minutes apart. 

Five people were shot in the first shooting around 6:05pm, and five more people – including three teenagers – were shot in a second shooting three blocks away, police said. 

All the victims are being treated at hospitals. Two are reportedly in critical condition. 

Police said they don’t know if the shootings are related, but early on in the investigation it appears they’re not connected, Deputy Chief Ernest Cato said during a press briefing Wednesday night.

‘I’m here to bring you some news; some news that we are tired of hearing,’ Cato said during a press briefing Wednesday night. 

‘This is becoming an effort where we’re going to need an all hands-on-deck approach,’ Cato said. ‘That approach is going to involve our community…our community who has cell phone photos, who has Facebook information, we’re going to need your help.’ 

 Police didn’t release any other details.

Gun violence has plagued the Windy City in 2021 like it has most metropolitan cities across the country.   

So far in 2021, there have been 1802 shootings, that’s a nine percent jump from this time last year and a 60percent jump from 2019, according to the latest crime statistics from Chicago police. 

During the July 4 weekend alone, 92 people were shot in the city and 16 were killed. This past weekend, 56 people were shot and 11 died.
