Chilling video footage captures the moment a 1-year-old girl was shot in her mother’s arms in gun-plagued Philadelphia over the weekend.
The baby took a bullet to a leg during the drive-by shoot-up of a deli around 8 p.m. Saturday in West Philly, reports said.
“This is not OK. This is not OK at all,’’ Philadelphia Police Deputy Commissioner Joel Dales raged to CBS affiliate KYW-TV of the crime — which left even the City of Brotherly Love’s district attorney, Larry Krasner, on the verge of tears at a press conference.
The surveillance footage, obtained by ABC affiliate WPVI-TV, shows bullets flying through the door of the bodega, apparently aimed at a 26-year-old man inside, cops said.
Panicked customers and store workers scatter as the intended target and another guy in the store return fire, according to authorities and the video.
The child is shot in the mayhem — and her mom then walks around stricken and dazed cradling her bleeding baby seeking help, the footage shows.
The baby was hospitalized in stable condition, as was the 26-year-old man, who was nailed in the arm, KYW said. He is in custody, the station added.
Cops are still hunting for the white Jeep containing the gunman who fired “indiscriminately’’ into the bodega, Dales said, according to the outlet.
“This goes to show that there are a lot of guns on the street, and you have folks who are not afraid to use these guns, and they don’t care who’s around when they use these guns,” Dales said.
Krasner appeared to choke back tears at a press briefing on the crime when he noted, “An approximately 1-year-old child was shot one time.”
The baby is among at least 123 kids who have been shot so far in the city this year — including 21 who died — as Philly battles a gun scourge, WPVI said.
The owner of the bodega where Saturday’s shooting occurred told the outlet, “The day when that happened, that night, I couldn’t even sleep because my mind was still hearing that voice, that crying of that moment.”
Asked if his store is still open for business, the man grimaced and nodded, saying, “I have to.”
