Outsorcer Mitie facing backlash against generous bonus plan for boss Phil Bentley at company’s annual meeting

Outsourcer Mitie is facing a backlash against a generous bonus plan for boss Phil Bentley at the company’s annual meeting next week.

Bentley will receive up to £5.7m if he reaches certain performance targets over the next three years. If he received the full amount, it would amount to 640 per cent of his annual £900,000 salary.

Backlash: The bonus scheme was drawn up as part of Mitie's £271m takeover of rival Interserve's facilities management arm

Backlash: The bonus scheme was drawn up as part of Mitie’s £271m takeover of rival Interserve’s facilities management arm

The bonus scheme was drawn up as part of Mitie’s £271m takeover of rival Interserve’s facilities management arm last year.

Glass Lewis and Institutional Shareholder Services – influential advisory groups which issue reports with guidance about how they think people should vote in company meetings – have urged investors to vote down the plan.

Thousands of Mitie staff have spent 16 months toiling on the Covid frontline – often on low pay.
